Buzz McNish
Head Baseball Coach

     Coach McNish took over as West High School's Baseball Coach in the summer of 2011 and has a long history of developing high school scholar-athletes, many of whom go on to become college baseball players or successful college students.  Coach McNish also served as the Second Vice President of the NABF (National Amateur Baseball Federation) and has coached for USA Baseball in the 18U National Team Trials Tournament of Stars.


     More than half of the players who have played for Coach McNish have signed or been offered the opportunity to play college baseball.  An important part of the Coach McNish's success has been a strong emphasis on academic achievement, in addition to baseball success.  Teams have averaged a 3.0 or better team GPA fifteen years in a row.


     In addition to coaching the Rebels, Coach McNish served as the Second Vice President of the NABF (National Amateur Baseball Federation), based out of Bowie, MD.  The NABF is the oldest amateur baseball organization in the country.  Coach McNish also served as the Tournament Director for the 14U, 16U, and High Division World Series for the NABF for seven years.  In 2010, Coach McNish was chosen as the NABF's "Man of the Year" for his contributions to amateur baseball.  In 2012, Coach McNish was recognized by the NABF with the Ronald E. McMinn Award of Merit.


     While coaching with USA Baseball, Coach McNish served as an Assistant Coach and Head Coach for three years for USA Baseball Tournament of Stars, held at the USA Baseball Training Facility in Cary, NC.  McNish recruited, scouted, and worked with some of the top players in the country.  Including six first round, eight second round, and thirty-four total players drafted in the MLB Draft. 


     In 2019, McNish was elected to the East Tennessee Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.  The ceremony takes place in June at Smokies Park.


     Coach McNish played NCAA Baseball at Maryville College.  Coach McNish lives in Knoxville with his wife, Erin, and their son.
